Research Institute on the Canaanite, Phoenician and Punic

The Institute for Research on Canaanite, Phoenician and Punic Civilization (IRCCPP) was created in April 2014

The temporary headquarters were officially inaugurated on November 28, 2014, in Beirut, while the permanent headquarters housed in Beit Beirut are been built by the Municipality.

Its mission: a laboratory of ideas and a search engine to rediscover the history, artistry and culture of the Canaanite, Phoenician and Punic Civilizations.

A first round table has been organized in May 2014 with archaeologists, historians and teachers representing the major universities in Lebanon (Lebanese, AUB, USJ, Balamand, and USEK). The aim was to set the major outlines of their future collective research.

The Institute also participated, in October 2014, in the organization of the Forum V of the League of Canaanite, Phoenician and Punic Cities in Piraeus in Athens.

The following projects are being implemented under the direction of the Institute:

  1. Classical Research Library. A kernel is already in place. An online library is also planned.
  2. The first Phoenician Virtual Museum is being developed.
  3. Preparations are underway to publish a periodical and new scientific research and discoveries on the subject.
  4. Phoenician Atlas Publication is under study.

Through this Institute, Lebanon will continue its leading role in cross-cultural communication and largely contribute, as it did it in the past, to the Dialogue among Cultures.
